So if you're evaluating lithium battery suppliers, what should you actually compare? Start with the quote structure. A transparent quote lists every major cost category—cells, BMS, packaging, freight, duties, installation, training. A vague quote gives you a unit price and says “additional costs may apply.” I've learned to treat that phrase as a red flag.

  • What fees are not in this quote? I ask for a list of exclusions in writing.
  • Does your price include delivery to my warehouse, including customs clearance and insurance?

When This Approach Doesn't Work

If you're buying batteries at utility scale or contracting with new, unproven suppliers, your due-diligence process will look different. Also, transparent pricing doesn't guarantee quality. You still need to audit the cell manufacturer's certifications, visit production lines, and check references.

And there are cases where the low bid makes sense—maybe you have a forgiving timeline, a flexible project scope, and the supplier has a good track record. But that should be a deliberate decision, not a default. I never want to choose the low bid because I missed the hidden costs.
